Educational specifications articulate a school’s educational program and the corresponding projection of physical spaces required to accommodate it. Architects utilize the document as the conceptual framework for building design. The idea and execution of such a fundamental document varies from place to place, and its method of implementation also varies widely.

State agency and school district leaders benefit from a common language and common expectations as they proceed with the process of facilitating the development of educational specifications. This professional development seminar provides an overview of educational specifications, including their content and purpose, the various forums for communicating input, and the roles school district participants assume in this process. The seminar will also introduce seminar participants to a web-based tool for developing educational specifications.
